Gangotri is where the Bhagirathi, the main stream of the Ganga, is worshipped. The glacier at Gaumukh, the actual source, lies about 18 km further up.
The temple is reachable by road, so Gangotri is the easiest of the four dhams to visit.
Road via Uttarkashi and Harsil. Helicopter yatras land at Harsil.
